Complete idiot's Guide to Sex on the Net
Published in Paperback by Alpha Communications (15 December, 1998)
Authors: Playboy Advisor, Rachel Anders, Karl Masutra, Rachel Anders, James K. Anders, and Rachel Anderson
Average review score:

Offers just what the title promises: a net-sex yellow pages
I found this book recommended on Coyote's site, and wondered just what it was that America's foremost prostitutes' orginization would recommend it. No, it's not a guidebook to finding hookers with WEB sites, but it is an excellently organized guide, in the same general format as others in the Complete Idiot's series, to WEB sites for vicarious thrills, sexually related products and accurate, sexually related information of all kinds by a psychologist and his wife, writing more as friendly fellow consumers than as professionals.

I still don't know why Coyote recommends it, though I assume it's because they are in turn rcommended (quite appropriately) as a major source of information on the prostitutes' rights movement and proposals for legalizing or decriminalizing (NOT the same thing) prostitution, but separate chapters cover everything from sexual/medical information sources to sites prviding titilation and more for those interested in things "kinky" of various sorts and gender bendering etc.

Minor disappointment to me is the systematic covering of all the "naughty bits" in all the WEB site photos that occur typically several to a page and illustrate most of the specific textual write-ups in this full length book, but this is minor: this volume is not pornography masquerading as a refrence work; it is a genuine reference to pornography plus very much more that's sexually oriented and to be found on the WEB.

My major hope is that it will be frequently revised and reissued, as any reference to anything WEB-related must be in order to remain usefull, and that the authors plus others involved in producing and distributing it make much money from the project as they so richly (pun intended) diserve -- it's well worth its cost!

Complete Self-Care Guide to Holistic Medicine: Treating Our Most Common Ailments
Published in Hardcover by J. P. Tarcher (September, 1999)
Authors: Robert S. Ivker, Robert A. Anderson, and Larry Trivieri
Average review score:

Every Household should have a copy
What a fantastic resource! At last, a comprehensive guide to truly holistic health. Not just dealing with the physical, but the emotional, spiritual, and environmental aspects of each health issue. Dr Anderson has spent many years of his career researching the literature to find clinically proven holistic ways of treatment; these are not just antidotal remedies as found in most other books (Docs, check out his Clinician's Guide to Holistic Medicine, from the Hazelden Chronic Illness Series, or one of his compilations of abstracts to support holistic medicine.) Dr Ivker has pulled from some of his other holistic health books to really add more to this one. (Sinus Survival, Asthma Survival, and Arthritis Survival)

Even if you were to never use the information in the main body of this book, read it for the "self interview" at the beginning to help determine how healthy you are. Do you define health to be a state of "lack of disease" or one of whole person wellness? This book will help you in your discovery of true holistic (whole person) health.

I'm a board certified physician who practices Holistic Medicine and am proud to recommend this book to my patients on a daily basis. I even recommend it on my office web-site.

No book is all-inclusive of every ailment that we'd want to research, but this is by far one of the best I've found... I refer to it regularly.

Computational Fluid Dynamics: An Introduction
Published in Hardcover by Springer Verlag (15 January, 1996)
Authors: John F. Wendt, J. D. Anderson, G. Degrez, E. Dick, and R. Grundmann
Average review score:

The Perfect Introductory Reference for any Bookshelf!
I have used this textbook at the Graduate level in pursuit of my M.Eng in Aerospace Engineering. It was a reference textbook for our "Finite Difference Methods in Computational Fluid Dynamics" course. It was invaluable! It provides a clear, comprehensive review of the Fluid Dynamic Equations including an excellent discussion of their mathematical properties. This is followed by a detailed development of the Finite Difference Method as applied to the computational solution of fluid dynamic problems. Included are discretization techniques, transformations and grids, stability analysis, and boundary layer solutions. Finally, the Finite Element Method is introduced and developed in detail. Although not directly applicable to my course, the FEM discussion layed in the ground work for further study. This book really is the perfect reference for both the undergraduate and graduate level CFD course.

Considerations on Western Marxism
Published in Paperback by Verso Books (December, 1985)
Authors: Perry Anderson and Peter Anderson
Average review score:

Negative dialectics between theory and practice
Perry Anderson is a leading editor of New Left review and a prominent Marxist historian. His two part work, ¡®Passages from Antiquity to Feudalism¡¯ and ¡®Lineage of the Absolutist State¡¯ (see my reviews on those books for detail), is now counted as classic. In this short booklet, he poses two perplexing questions: ¡®why have Western Marxists been written so difficult to read?¡¯; ¡®why has there been no significant research on politics and economy among Western Marxists circle? Marxism is initially oriented towards practice. So its theory should be easy to be read by layperson and for its major premise is to transform the political economy, Marxist theory should tackle the very target of the transformation. But leading figures of Western Marxism, such as Lukacs, members of Frankfurt school like Adorno, Horkheimer, Marcuse, Wlater Benjamin, and Fromm, paid little, if any, attention to economics or politics, but to methodology, philosophy or aesthetics. Besides, their writing styles are not behind Hegel or Heidegger in its difficulty to decipher.
Perry Anderson argues that it¡¯s because the lack of prospect of revolution after the end of World War I. Marxist theorists were isolated from working class that was supposed to be the agent of revolution to end capitalism. Without such a vision, Marxist theorists were obsessed with pessimism. They could not have the vision of revolution. So philosophy and aesthetics were the escape from reality. For example, most works of Frankfurt school take a cynical stance against the reality under capitalism. They need a sanctuary protected from polluted reality. But that kind of place could not be found in the real world. Philosophy and aesthetics provide the spot to look down on the muddy secular world.
One writes to be read by others. But interwar Marxists did not imagine of any reader in working class. Therefore their works should be directed to colleague scholars in ivory tower.
In Adorno¡¯s word, such a stance should be called as ¡®Negative Dialectics¡¯. Adorno said ¡®Negative dialectics is a phrase flouts tradition. As early as Plato, dialectics meant to achieve something positive by means of negation: the thought figure of a ¡®negation of negation¡¯¡¦Negative dialectics seeks to free dialectics from such affirmative traits.¡¯ It¡¯s negation for negation. There is nothing to be achieved (revolution). Dialectics, thus, cannot but float over reality towards unrealized, maybe unattainable, reality.

Corporate America: Surviving Your Journey Towards Success
Published in Paperback by Writers Showcase Press (February, 2003)
Author: Nichel Anderson
Average review score:

A GOOD READ, Geared towards professional & personal success
Throughout the book, Corporate America: Surviving Your Journey Towards Success, the author, Nichel Anderson uses the word 'effect' abundantly:

>"...my initiative is to show you how to effectively maneuver the often-tidal waves of Corporate America"

>"What are the effects of having a good attitude or a bad one?"

>"...the inner politics of Corporate America must be understood and respected in order to be an effective player"

>"...an effective appearance is a balance of knowing what is appropriate in the workplace and being within the workplace guidelines"

And so on...

Whether an individual is striving to succeed going the corporate route, or looking to venture into the world of entrepreneurship, or just in general trying to maintain and nurture everyday relationships, the goal is always to bring forth desirable results, in a word, to be effective and succeed in these endeavors.

The reader's journey through this book begins with self-analysis exercises and appropriately so. I believe that the strength of this book lies in Nichel Anderson's approach to start off by having readers examine the core of their primary influence towards success: Ones own self. The author obviously believes that once an individual can recognize and obtain positive emotional and spiritual health, that their chosen career path and related decisions will effectively produce positive outcomes. Readers are encouraged to explore their attitude, emotional balance, and patterns of interaction with others. One of the many thought-provoking quotes offered within this book goes: "Open your eyes and look within. Are you satisfied with the life you're living?"

Not forsaking the professional tools also essential for one to succeed on their chosen career path, this book thoroughly examines everything from Effective Cover letters, Resumes, and Interviewing techniques to ongoing, Effective Verbal and Written Communication whilst on the job.

Corporate America: Surviving Your Journey Towards Success is much more than just a good read, more importantly it's an invaluable tool that one can utilize and apply throughout their career. This wonderful book not only tells but also shows by numerous examples "how" to be effective and succeed. Containing everything from hands on exercises to recommended daily rituals, from locating and utilizing career counselors to providing input from various professionals, this book is all encompassing for everyone, at any level in their career. This book is an easy read that contains a wealth of information geared towards not only professional success, but personal growth and success as well. I envision this book being a resource that various facets of business implement into their employee career development practices.
